You know what I love?

People who pronounce.

You know the kind of folk I mean – those people who declare with very little attendant evidence that this or that is over/the brand new big thing/doesn’t work any more (but whatever they’re peddling does).

My favourite response is to go and try out the very thing they say doesn’t work and see for myself.

Nine times out of ten, it not only works but works really well.

Take, for instance, the pronouncement I saw recently that there was no point blogging because with so many billions of blogs out there you would get drowned out in all the noise blah blah blah…

Well, since I started my new daily newsletter and simply added it to my blog just over a week ago I have seen a substantial rise not just in page views but in unique IPs.

And those are real people as opposed to bots because the stat plugin I use (the free Slimstat) gives me a very clear breakdown of what the numbers really mean.

I have done zero promotion of those posts apart from my on-site SEO. I haven’t even told you lot that they’re there but simply sent out them email version. Just wait until I get started on some hardcore blog promotion. I predict those numbers will look even lovelier to me.

So in the spirit of debunking the naysayers, who usually have a profit-linked agenda, I’m going to address another myth today and that is the one that membership sites are dead/not as profitable compared to launches/a nightmare when it comes to retention.
