I talk a lot about driving traffic.

We all talk a lot about driving traffic.

But do you know where you should be driving that traffic?

In my opinion, to your own blog or landing page rather than directly to someone else’s web property such as an affiliate product page or social media site…

But which is better…a blog or a landing page?

In this week’s newsletter, I’m going to look at both so you can decide for yourself.

Let’s start with this handy comparison which, I think, draws the right conclusion:

And then move on to this from one of my go-to favourites, Neil Patel, on how a blog is not just a blog but a business…as well as how to turn your blog into a hugely successful business:

Hopefully you are now convinced about this blogging thing but, of course, driving traffic is one thing – getting all those people to do what you want when they get to your site is another.

One of the main things you want to them to do – IMHO the main thing – is to become a subscriber or lead so that you can then start to build your relationship with them.

Here are 12 ways to do that:

Of course, having a blog doesn’t mean that you can’t have landing pages…in fact, you absolutely should have them and, thanks to all kinds of great themes and plugins, you can easily incorporate them within your site for sign ups, promos and so on:

Don’t have a theme that allows you to create landing pages?

Prefer to add a landing page function to your current theme?

Here is an excellent comparison of plugins that will do just that without costing you a penny:

Don’t forget that you can also create sales pages on your blog in much the same way and here’s a great tutorial on the subject from the legendary Darren Rowse of Problogger fame:

As with everything you create, there are decisions you will have to make when setting up a blog, a page or whatever. Extend that to your business and even your life and we all make thousands of decisions every day.

I especially enjoyed this week’s TED talk because it helped me achieve more clarity with that decision making. I think it will help you too:
