Today I have been immersed in setting up pages and products before diving into Canva where I remained until I went out to meet a lovely woman from whom I had commissioned hand-knitted baby bootees for a friend.

We ended up having one of those chats where I gave her a superfast run-down of what she could do online to set up and run a hand-knit business when she retires from her present job and moves to Spain.

My suggestions included Instagram and Pinterest as well as her creating an online course in knitting and, as she is an aspiring writer as well, my take on how to come up with great ideas for books that turn them into bestsellers rather than sinking without a trace.

Funnily enough, I’m putting lots of this into my current teaching but today was very much about design and branding as one of my decisions this year is to create truly beautiful course material that will give you and other students the best possible learning experience.

To help with that, I tried out some new stock photo sites that offer stuff you don’t see everywhere – you might like to check these out and see what you think.

Reshot offers hand-picked ‘non-stocky’ photos:

Stocksnap is another site with original pics:

And all the photos at Gratisography are captured by one photographer who describes them as ‘quirky’ and ‘creative’:

Talking of quirky, I absolutely love this and it something else I’m going to share with my knitter friend:
