Last week I was talking to you about making marketing real…

As in bringing it into the real world instead of the constantly virtual.

This week we’re keeping it real and I’m doing that by giving you a behind the scenes look at my week as a marketer, brand strategist, product creator and everything else so that you can watch, learn and emulate.

Typically, my week is a juggle and that’s the way I like it. It’s also the way I teach you to run your weeks because I always want you to have several streams of income.

For me, this meant that I was putting together a course launch this week that I believe is immensely helpful for you as well as working with clients who have very different needs AND working on other projects of my own.

My work with my clients culminated in a workshop I ran all day yesterday for them and I’m going to pull out parts of that so you can experience nearly as much value as they did.

I started with the basics because these clients, although they have different business ideas and strategies to implement, had little clue when it came to digital or even offline marketing. If you have ever wondered if you can teach a beginner something, this should give you heart.

We ran through the basics of branding, domain names, site design and implementation, physical and digital product creation, setting up Etsy shops as well as shops on other platforms, creating courses from live workshops so that the client had ongoing passive streams of income and putting that all together to lay the foundations of successful businesses.

One client had taken on board my initial suggestions to her so well that she turned up with brand new business cards, stickers and packaging to brand her new line…which we then expanded during the day so that she could build on her initial low cost physical product through an entire line of products at higher prices.

Yes, I know this may not be rocket science to you but this is real life stuff. I love working with people who really want to create something that will genuinely sustain and support them and their families, especially when doing so also builds their confidence.

To inspire you to do the same, here are some resources that spring from what we did.

First of all, branding. Yes, it might make you twitch or even yawn but it’s what sets you apart from everyone else so that people instantly recognise it’s you or your product.

It’s why we spent some time brainstorming and finding the right domain names for some participants – so that those names reflected their particular brands.

Here’s an excellent guide to branding yourself:

And a guide that focuses on branding yourself on social media:

None of my workshop participants were starting a business related to IM. One is a coaching business with a spiritual slant, one creates physical products for babies and small children, three are service providers whose skills include design, writing and pet care while the two others are an author and an artist respectively.

Providing a specialist service is, as I always teach, one of the best ways to start and build a successful business online and off. If you have no idea what service you might provide, here are some suggestions…105 to be exact:

As for opening an Etsy shop, here’s everything you need to know:

Although, as I advised my students and as you know, I always believe you should have your own online real estate in the form of your own website or shop as well.

Here’s how to get started with that:

Of course, what all this boils down to is finding work you love rather than hate or just endure…and your TED talk this week will help you with that too:

As for that launch – well, I was so busy helping other people I rather shortchanged myself. But I certainly didn’t shortchange anyone who decides to take my new course because I can humbly and truthfully say it’s one of my best ever, mostly because it focuses on how you can set a true value on yourself and what you do and charge real world prices for your brilliance…so you earn far more and feel far happier.
