Many people ask me if I still root around in vintage shops and at sales as I have taught in my courses and the answer is a resounding yes because I absolutely love it.

I go with a friend who is an avid eBayer or my daughter and we almost always find some kind of treasure we can flip for a tidy profit.

Not at today’s car boot, or yard sale if you are in the US, though and it wasn’t really my fault. Some days there just isn’t anything you want but the problem today was more specific: the stallholders were not catering for their audience.

You see, for once it was boiling hot in London. The weather forecast said it was going to be hot and actually got it right. But what did I see on almost every stall?

Winter stuff.

Winter clothes, winter sports items, heavy, clunky, dark stuff. Know who did best today? The ice cream seller. Which only goes to show that you need to give your audience what they are hungry for when you are presenting your offer.

With that in mind, and because in this past week I launched Wonga, I’m going to look at what you might call another side hustle or extra stream of income and that’s freelancing.

I’ve chosen this for your newsletter because there are so many ways you can freelance to bring in some extra or turn it into a full-time gig and let’s start with one of my favourites: freelance writing.

Yes, I know that might fill you with dread, but I firmly believe that almost anyone can do this in one form or another. And to get you started, here is an excellent tutorial ideal for beginners:

As I said earlier, there are many ways to freelance. You might already have some idea of what you can do or you might need inspiration – either way you’ll love this list of the top places to find work as a freelancer online:

Your TED talk this week focuses on what I call the portfolio approach to work and examines why some of us will do many things rather than have one true calling…IMHO it’s the only way to be!
