Over the past couple of weeks I’ve changed my entire life and moved to the country…

And I can’t tell you how exhilarating and scary it’s been.

Family reasons meant I had to do it that fast and it’s certainly been a shock to the system for this city girl but I think in a good way.

So, using all that new shock of the new, I’m going to change up your approach to your business with some kickass suggestions this week…

Especially as I’ve been helping build out not just a brand new site as well but a brand new business.

One thing that emerged from that is the basic mistakes people still make along with the gaps in knowledge I erroneously assume they have.

Bottom line? You probably know more than you think you do but even the best of us can get the basics wrong with catastrophic consequences so let’s start that shake-up with a good, hard look at what you’re currently doing.

First of all, let’s think about how people think about you, i.e. your branding.

This could be your personal branding, your business branding or, as is often the case online, a mixture of both.

Here’s a good primer on branding:

And this from Shopify that is slanted towards ecom but has lots of good ideas for us all:

Don’t forget that one of the best branding tools out there is Canva and the no cost basic version is absolutely fine for most people:

They offer some great branding tips and tricks here:

Of course, to brand effectively you have to know your audience and/or market. People argue endlessly about the best ways to do this but here are some tips that work in my experience:

Now for a new twist…homework. Yup, I’d like you to take the suggestions here and apply them to you and your business this week.

Will there be a test? No. Will you gain if you do so? Yes.

So your specific assignment is to identify your target market/audience and then take a long look at your branding and decide if it fits. If it doesn’t, how can you change or tweak it?

Not got a business, a brand or even an idea yet? You’re in luck. You get to start from the bottom up. Your assignment is to come up with at least three ideas that reflect brand you and then decide what you best have to offer.

Your TED talk this week is on how just a few words can change the course of a life – bear this in mind when creating any communications:
