This week I’ve been coaching someone who has a book coming out later in the year and wants to launch it with maximum impact.

This is a book about pitching and the author used to run one of the biggest advertising agencies in the world which you would think might make for a tricky client…except that he’s an absolute joy to work with.

Why? Because he understands the importance of creating a great platform as an author – he just doesn’t know how to do it, especially in this brave new digital world.

I’ve been strategizing with him and part of the strategy includes podcasting – the topic of my new product, Talking Profits, which is coming out tomorrow.

It got me thinking about how important it is for all of you to establish your own platforms and to build on them, whether you are an author, product creator, consultant, coach or marketer.

With that in mind, I went looking for fresh resources and came up with some doozies…

First is an excellent Forbes piece on Michael Hyatt, someone I cite in Talking Profits, who wrote a book called ‘Platform.’ This covers some of the ideas he shares in that book and although they are aimed here at authors, you can all take something from them:

His platform –building tips on Youtube are also good and I particularly recommend this one on monetizing your blog:

And this on why you need an elevator pitch:

Having mentioned podcasting, how could I not then share Michael’s podcast series on building your platform, starting with this one:

Chris Brogan is a guy who knows all there is to know about building a huge fan base and platform through blogging – here are some invaluable tips from him:

And a thought-provoking piece that explores how everyone is talking about building an online platform…and why you should be too:

Your Kindle freebie this week is a rather useful guide to internet marketing for small businesses – while it’s aimed at beginners, it’s also good for anyone who has to explain how all this ‘stuff’ works to small business owners who simply don’t get it:
