Today I am off to the Oxford & Cambridge Goat Race…

Yes, you read that right. Instead of watching the famous boat race on the Thames, I will be watching two goats race around a city farmyard and it’s all in the name of charity.

Even better, this goat race raises enough money every year and that’s due in no small part to the social media – and mainstream media – campaign that makes it one of London’s most popular events.

An excellent reminder for us all on the power of platforms that are open to us all and so this week I’m kicking off with this from the always brilliant Lewis Howes on how to build a massive social media following:

Lewis is at the forefront of my mind because I bought his new book this week and I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to read it. In the meantime, I highly recommend these other two podcasts from him…

This on the top ten ways to make moolah on the net (which neatly fits with a certain course I am currently creating…more on that in due course):

And one of his 5 minute Friday podcasts on setting big goals:

With that podcast in mind, I love this motivational boost from FreeCodeCamp on how nothing will change until you start building…whether that’s a product, an app, a site or whatever:

David Siteman Garland is someone else I rate and his chat with Pat Flynn – another name you frequently see me recommend – reveals Pat’s strategy for being everywhere which has taken him from unknown to online superstar:

One way to be everywhere is, of course, to leverage the latest in social media – here are some essential Snapchat tips and tricks that will not only help you do that but also enable you to look extremely cool with the kids (and we all know how important that is):

Of course, social media is invaluable for getting your name and brand out there but many people forget it’s also a vital tool for customer retention. Here are 5 ways you can improve yours with social media:

And if you need some new social media marketing tools you’re in luck because I have two for you.

Quuu is a very useful automated scheduling tool that actually suggests updates for your social media profiles based on the topics you select. The unpaid plan is fine to get started:

While Refind solves a problem that afflicts many of us – it helps you find those brilliant articles you thought would be great for sharing…and now can’t find…

As well as suggesting all kinds of other great content which is a massive timesaver.

This one is currently in beta and won’t cost you a bean but you do need to join the waitlist or ask for an invitation on Twitter (well worth it):

Now that you’re all fired up with great ideas and new plans, here’s a cautionary TED talk from the superb Derek Sivers on why keeping them to yourself might be the best thing you ever do:
