This past week I have been talking about how important it is to build your own sites rather than rely on social media as the core of your business.

I have mentioned some sitebuilders I recommend out of the many available and they can save you a lot of time and technical effort but you can also build your own site using resources that are readily available for nada.

I’m going to expand on that here with some great tutorials on how to build those sites from the ground up so that they work for you.

I’ll be looking at all kinds of sites but let’s start with one of the most popular at the moment which is your own ecommerce site or store.

This is an excellent guide which covers absolutely everything from deciding on your focus to choosing your products to getting that baby built and working for you. It doesn’t rely on the popular done for you solutions out there like Shopify but gives you all kinds of choices so you can go for what suits you best:

Another site I know many of you want to build is an affiliate site promoting other people’s products.

Here’s an excellent tutorial on how to do that using WordPress (which means you can do it for nada except hosting etc)

While this tutorial gives you some other ideas and options for affiliate sites using WP:

Then there are blogs, often the cornerstone of a business as they can incorporate everything from a shop to a place where you brand yourself and your business and so much more.

Here’s an excellent course you can take that won’t cost you a bean:

There are lots of other build a blog guides out there and almost all promote one hosting company or another. My advice? Go for the one that best suits your needs and ignore those affiliate links!

As a blog is often a central site, it’s worth giving you a few more tips and tutorials here on what to do once you’ve set yours up.
